Romans 8:18
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
In our world, we would all agree that there is so much suffering around us. Maybe you have terrible morning sickness and it’s hard to see an end to hugging the toilet bowl. Maybe you will have a really hard labor, and the thought of making it to the point of holding your baby seems impossible. Maybe you have to grieve the loss of having a “normal” baby, and instead spend most of their life in and out of hospitals and specialist’s offices. Or maybe you, yourself, are physically or emotionally sick.
Suffering. We all see it, and in one way or another, we all experience it.
Whatever it is that you are currently facing personally, with your children, or with the people you love, God’s word promises us that this suffering won’t always be.
It will end.
Even if, at the moment, it doesn’t seem like the pain and hurt will ever end, it will.
Paul is so bold as to say that the sufferings that we are currently experiencing are not worth comparing to the glory that is to be revealed to us. The glory that is to come is the transforming and joy-bringing manifestation of God in one’s being.
One day, all sickness and pain and suffering will be gone, and we will be so consumed with the glory of God that it won’t even matter. It isn’t even worth comparing.
I know it’s hard. Really hard. I know some days you can barely imagine making it through the thick hardness. Let’s hold onto the hope that the Lord promises us: we can endure when we surrender. The glory that is to come is not even worth comparing to this suffering.
Hang on dear sister, lean into His word, and surrender.
